chleswig-Holstein has remained a German state since 1460.   It is bordered by two seas, the North Sea and the Baltic Sea.   The people of this sparsely populated state (approximately 3,000,000) are very diverse.   The dialect of the region is referred to as Low German and Danish is also spoken in areas of the state.   An ethnic group called the Frisians live on the state's western coast and outlying islands.
