orth Rhine-Palatinate is known as the land of "coal and steel" in Germany.   The Ruhr area is Europes largest industrial area.   Thirty power plants in this area supply most of the energy used in Germany.   It is the most populated state with around 521 persons per square kilometer.

the center of the German national Karneval Festival.
