he free German state of Brandenburg surrounds the German capital of Berlin.   The state capital of Potsdam was the main Prussian royal residence.   The Sanssouci Castle with the Weinberg Terraces, built by Frederick II between 1745 and 1747, is one of this states greatest architectural treasures.   Two other castles worth visiting when in Brandenburg are the Rheinsberg Castle near Neuruppin and the Rückansicht Castle in Uebigau.
